Murder by the seaside

Started by: linma (2919)

I enjoy watching that programme and last Saturday it focused on Louisa May Merrifield who was born in Wigan. She was notorious and was known as The Blackpool Strangler and was hanged in Strangeways by Albert Pierrpoint.

At one time she lived on Park Road, the first house on your left just under the bridge before you turn right for Springfield Road.

There is a book called "The Seaside Murders" by Jonathan Goodman which contains thirteen true life murder stories.

I think she was known as the Blackpool Poisoner, as she poisoned her husbands.

I've just read about her in Wikipedia and it's quite fascinating, but she didn't poison her husbands. She poisoned her elderly female employer, a Mrs Ricketts, by introducing Rodentine (rat poison) into her food.

First elderly husband died of sub-acute infective hepatitis, and second elderly husband died of a heart attack. She was married three times in the space of 10 months.

It's an interesting story, so worth a read.

Linma:

What station is it on please? I've looked on ITV Catch-Up and BBC iPlayer but couldn't find it. They're all I have as I don't have a TV. I find programmes like that really interesting.

Ah, thanks Peter and Linma. I only have terrestrial using Catch-Up as I don't have a TV. Maybe it'll be uploaded to You Tube. I'll have a look.

Edit: I found it on You Tube. Will watch later. Thanks again.
